I think about films. Obsessively. Short ones, big ones, geeky ones, corporate ones, music ones, talky ones, creative ones; I think about then all the time. I occasionally write them. My education was through screenwriting. In the past I’ve had a short commissioned by the BBC. I’ve written copy for household brands. I’ve even sold a feature length screenplay. It definitely gets me in the mood. I sometimes even film them myself - I like to watch, you see. I’ve cast my lens over virals, shorts, guerrillas and commercials. I like it - a lot – but sometimes you’ve got to touch them too. So I get hands on. I edit. I cut. I render. I tweak. Anything and everything. Mine and others. A little documentary viral here. A commercial there. A vox pop. A promo. The rhythm and pace is just so… so… exciting. For the ultimate thrill I direct. I’ve directed big budget 35mm commercials for cash as well as mini-DV projects for pleasure, and plenty in between. They’re all very satisfying. I like knowing the audience. I like to give them what they want. But I’m not the only one with this obsession. I’ve seen things on this journey. I’ve obsessed alongside BBH, the BBC, Crow, DDB, Publicis, BBDO, Lunch, Academy, Colonel Blimp, Partizan, Hook Films, Cut Cut, Tango Productions and Lee Films. I’ve also been caught up with Mercedes, Orange, Dodge, Pepsi, Playstation, the Sci-Fi channel, AMF, Amnesty International, Energy Saving Trust, Thomson Holidays and Kickers to name but a few. What can I say? I’m still not ready for commitment yet! So whether it’s a blank page at the beginning or some tweaking at the end I love to get involved. It’s what I do. Obsessively. All the time.
